Benefits of learning a foreign language
Learning a second
language
includes many benefits as well as being enjoyable for its own sake. Benefits
of speaking a second language include increased job opportunities, better
understanding of other cultures, being able to communicate while travelling,
as well as understanding your own language better. In a world of increasing
globalisation, it is often essential to know a second language. Many
businesses operate in more than one nation, selling products to different
markets or opening offices worldwide. Some jobs also require more than one
language, such as flight attendants or travel agents.
Speaking two or more languages also increases cognitive abilities.
Bilinguals and multilinguals are also more employable, earning more on
average than monolinguals.
Foreign Language Resources- Dictionaries
There are three basic types of dictionary: the compact, historical and
general purpose dictionary. The functions of the general purpose dictionary are to provide definitions,
proper pronunciation, correct spelling and derivations as well as any
restrictive labels attached to a word.
Pronunciation of a particular word may vary from region to region, so a
dictionary will give the generally accepted pronunciation. The dictionary
will provide an explanatory table to explain the system used. The dictionary
will use italics to indicate the syllable in a word to be stressed.
If a word is marked 'informal', 'colloquial' or 'slang' it should not be
used in formal settings.
A bilingual dictionary is a dictionary that is usually used to translate
words or phrases from one language to another. A multilingual dictionary
will translate phrases into more than one language, the most common form
being the trilingual dictionary. These are designed mainly for students,
travelers, translators and businessmen working overseas.

Pashto and Dari (Afghan Persian/Farsi) are the official languages of Afghanistan. Pashto was declared the National Language of the country during the beginning of Zahir Shah's reign, however, Dari has always been used for business and government transactions. Both belong to the Indo-European group of languages. According to recent US government estimates, approximately 35 percent of the Afghan population speaks Pashto, and about 50 percent speaks Dari. Turkic languages (Uzbek and Turkmen) are spoken by about 11 percent of the population. There are also numerous other languages spoken in the country (Baluchi, Pashai, Nuristani, etc.), and bilingualism is very common.

Learning an Aboriginal Language
http://www.ards.com.au/ Learning an Aboriginal Language - Yes there are many Aboriginal languages but in each area there are usually language learning materials for at least one language and you will find that this language is normally spoken or at least understood right across that particular region. So obtain resources for the language in the area in which you will be working and start learning!
What is the value of learning another's language? It is said that "knowledge is power", but knowledge and information are only available to people through a language that they can understand. If we really want to help Aboriginal people we need to impart information to them in a language that they can understand. Through learning a language we can help them gain control over their lives while we learn a lot about their world. As Mandawuy Yunupingu has said, "language is power".

Resources for Learning French
http://www.fourmilab.ch/ This is a summary of resources I've found useful in learning French in order to survive in Neuchâtel. The selection of resources is slanted explicitly toward the goal of survival: mastering the language sufficiently to be able to buy a car, read the newspaper, get your furnace repaired, and all the other fun-filled components of day-to-day life.
From that base, you can proceed to a deeper understanding of the literary language and more effective ways of expressing yourself but it doesn't make sense to worry about such refinements until you're able to warn that pesky neighbour kid that if he rings your doorbell one more time and runs away, you'll tear off his fingers and toes and feed them to your vicious dog.
